Stephen Richard Meyer, of Pasco, WA, passed away at age 68 on Thursday, February 21, 2019.

Stephen was born on December 20, 1950 in Minneapolis, MN to Gerald and Patricia (Ziebell) Blatzheim. He graduated from Anoka High School in 1967, then joined the Army and served during the Vietnam War. Following his time in the service, Stephen worked as a commercial shellfisherman on Long Island, NY. He then moved to New Mexico where he worked for Los Alamos National Laboratory while raising two daughters, Karell and Kathleen, with Coleen (Bottari) Meyer. He retired from Hanford National Laboratory in Washington.

Stephen had a passion for reading, exploring maps, and gaining knowledge about everything and everyone he came in contact with. He found everyone interesting in some way. He listened to people, which is why people liked him, despite the fact that he loved to give his opinion no matter the subject. He loved fishing, gardening, canning and experimenting in the kitchen. He was always happy to share his bounty, never taking no for an answer. He laughed easily and was known for his sense of humor, which was usually directed at whoever was being their ridiculous selves. He also loved music and would often turn up the radio to serenade any nearby dogs, and his children could always count on Dad’s rendition of Casey Jones’ “The Happy Birthday Song” on their special day.

Stephen was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Sweepe, his father, Gerald Blatzheim, step-father, Ronald Meyer, and dogs, Snookie, Victor, Rosie, and Belle. He is survived by his daughters, Karell (James) Wagner of Johnstown, CO, and Kathleen Meyer of Portland, OR, his sisters, Chris Trevino of Tempe, AZ, and Jeannette Jones of Yuma, AZ, his brother, Bud (Shawnda) Meyer, of Casa Grande, AZ, dog Lolo, beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends, longtime and fast alike.

As per his wishes, the family will spread his ashes on the Columbia River. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 3413 Estrella Dr in Pasco, WA, from 11am to 2pm, with a pickle toast at high noon. Please pet a dog and eat a pickle in lieu of flowers or donations.
