Cora Jean Davis passed away April 23, 2020 in Greeley Colorado following a short illness. Jean, (as she was better known to friends and family) was born October 3, 1929 to Robert and Orpha (Swope) Newkirk in Laramie Wyoming. Jean was educated in country schools on the Laramie plains. Following the family’s move closer to town, she graduated from Wheatland High school.

Jean married Clarence Whittaker on April 17, 1947 in Scottsbluff Nebraska. To this union seven children were born. Living in Wheatland, she kept books for the Clarence’s gas station business, and taught 4H. She helped the family finances by teaching herself reupholstery work, and wedding cake decorating. Following a divorce, in 1969 Jean and the four youngest children moved to Denver, Colorado, where she worked for AT&T. On November 24, 1971 she married widower Dean Davis, father of three. She retired from AT&T to pursue her dream of painting and art. She opened a print, frame shop (Gilded Caje) in Arvada Co. Following Dean’s retirement, they moved to Fort Morgan, Colorado in 1995.

Jean is survived by her children, Dana (Terry) Stencel, Gail (Denny) Gridley, Robin Everett, Phillip (Mona) Whittaker, Ria (Owen) Schaeffer, Deanet Davis, Kelly (Marian) Davis, Jard Davis, nineteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her only sibling Robert, both spouses, and her two oldest daughters, Krystine (Benson) and Jennifer (Cox).

Per Jean’s request no services will be held.
