Obituary

With his family by his side, Burt Bowles slipped the bounds of earth on May 3, 2021 at Northern Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Colorado. He was born to Galen and Kathy Bowles on March 11th, 1960 in Denver, Colorado.

He attended school in Yuma, Colorado from the third grade through his Junior year of High School and then went on to graduate the following year from Summit High School in Dillon, Colorado.

Burt received a Business degree from Western State College and later an MBA from the University of Phoenix. He retired from Eagle Rock School in Estes Park in 2020 where he had been employed for over 25 years.

Burt married Valerie Young in 1990 in Louisville, Kentucky. They have a son and daughter, and then welcomed a grandson in 2016. He was the ultimate family man and father, cherishing time with them.

Burt enjoyed working on classic cars, snorkeling in the islands, searching for petroglyphs, fossil digs and a dip in the hot springs on the way to the next music festival. He loved taking his family on unique road trips in his 1963 Thunderbird convertible. His favorite 15 minutes of fame was appearing on the Antiques Road Show with an advertising gift from his dad.

He was sweet, fun and a terrific husband as well as best friend to his wife, Valerie. He always looked for an opportunity to help someone else and most of all he believed in the amazing power of prayer. We will miss Burt, the man with the biggest heart!

Burt is survived by his wife, Valerie; son, Everett; daughter, Carly; grandson Maverick as well as his siblings, Lisa Bowles, Laura Miller, Brett Bowles and twin brother Brad Bowles.

Burt was such a kind and giving soul. There was not a time I walked past Burt - from the gravel paths to the dining hall - that he didn't smile and wave hello. When he asked "how are you doing?" he was genuinely interested in hearing your response. His authentic interest in the well-being of others - from students to staff - was such a blessing, truly modeling the Golden Rule. During my time working at Eagle Rock, there was a day when I was sick and ended up in the ER. Burt was the first person to visit me and even took my car home from the parking lot. It was for acts of kindness such as this that I will always remember Burt. Thank you for allowing him to be part of not just my life, but all the people he influenced in a positive way.

Burt and Val were my parents away from home. I spent my entire 3yrs at ERS in Spruce house with them and have so many amazing memories, I will never forget his infectious smile. He touched many lives and will always be remembered.

Val, Carly and Everett, thank you for sharing him with ER. I am so sorry for your loss and continue to keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Burt was the best house parent I could have ever hoped for. He was a strong, smart, kind man whose heart was so big it would shine through his eyes. I am so grateful to have know him. I was lucky to spend time with him after graduating Eagle Rock and one of my favorite memories was seeing his pride and love for his grandson.
His passing leaves a huge hole in my heart. Thank you Burt for being an amazing man. You are so loved and so missed.
