Obituary for Mary Janell "Jan" Notestine

Mary Janell "Jan" Notestine, 81, passed away on March 16, 2018 peacefully at her home in Greeley, Colorado. She was born to Harley and Mary (Newcomb) Coba on August 31, 1936 in Cambridge, Nebraska. Jan grew up on a small farm outside of Cambridge as the youngest of five siblings. It was the farm life where she developed a love of family and great pride in her three brothers and one sister. She was exceptionally close to her mother and they moved from Nebraska to Boulder, CO where she met her husband Mark while both working for Mountain Bell. In November of 1962 Jan and Mark traveled to Las Vegas for their wedding, thus beginning a marriage of 49 years until his passing in 2011. Together they raised 4 tight-knit children in Littleton, CO with Jan providing love, trust and fun as the foundation of the home. Always welcoming of any stray neighborhood kid or person in need, Jan had a selfless quality and always made sure everyone was happy before she thought of herself. After their children were raised Jan and Mark moved to Greeley, a town chosen by Jan for its strong sense of community and family values. Jan loved living in Greeley and enjoyed having her adult kids living nearby in Greeley and Denver. Her focus on her family was her lifelong pursuit and she will be remembered as a great woman of faith and a wonderful mother, wife and friend of all. Jan is survived by her children, Ty (Katy) Notestine, Timber Notestine, Drew Notestine and Karen Gulkin; 4 grandchildren; Emma, Timber, Will and Claire; and brother; Jim Coba. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings; Darrell, Dick and Sharon. Celebration of Jan’s life will be held on Friday March 23, 2018 at 10:00 am at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 2101 16th Street in Greeley. Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Weld County or TRU Hospice of Northern Colorado. To leave condolences for Jan’s family please visit,
